Rucksack-Update #4

I don't believe it! I really forgot to record the progress? Well, there wasn't that much progress during the last two days. Had to do some more housework as my sis is visiting me in a few days. The bag is mainly done and I wanted to finish it today, but then my friend Naseera called and invited us for lunch - I haven't eaten mutton biryani in years! She also made a yummy pakistani trifle. A mango-cream (some kind of pudding) with grinded biscuits & almonds and banana slices. Sooooo sweet and yummy! Her hubby actually thinks there's a lil too less sugar in it, but I love it! I just graze the lil bowl out she gave me before I had to leave.

Das glaub ich nicht! Ich habe vergessen, den Fortschritt zu dokumentieren? Na ja, so viel Fortschritt gab's da gar nicht. Mußte mal etwas mehr putzen, weil meine Schwester für ein paar Tage zu Besuch kommt. Der Rucksack ist in der Hauptsache fertig, und eigentlich sollte er heute auch ganz fertig sein... Aber dann rief mich meine Freundin Naseera an und lud uns zum Mittag ein - ich hab ja schon ewig kein Lamm-Biryani mehr gegessen! Außerdem hat sie ein leckeres pakistanisches Trifle gemacht. Eine Mango-Creme (so ähnlich wie Pudding) mit gemalenen Keksen und Mandeln und Bananenscheiben. Sooooo süß und lecker! Ihr Mann war zwar was den Zuckergehalt anging etwas anderer Meinung, aber ich find's sehr lecker. Grad nasche ich noch die Schale, die sie mir mitgegeben hatte, leer.

I sewed the stripes in the corners and casted on the stitches for the lid yet. In my imagination I already know how to knit it, of course. It's just a matter of time now.

Ich habe inzwischen die Eckstreifen festgenäht und die Maschen für den Deckel aufgenommen. Eine Vorstellung darüber wie ich den Deckel stricken werde, habe ich natürlich auch schon. Also alles nur noch eine Frage der Zeit.

Today I knitted a lil on my Lava-Shawl. The next row is a hole row - this time with the new skein which I finally knitted on. Then I calculated (just for the fun of it) how many stitches I am actually knitting. 307 yet. I just flattened the shawl on the table and ugh! there is a thread coming out! Dhania - Naseera's daughter may have drawn it during one of her 'Nahin'-attacks, but I'm not quite sure. (Nahin doesn't mean anything other then NO in Urdu/Hindi. Urdu is the official language of Pakistan and Hindi of India) These No-attacks are nothing to worry about with 2 years old, but you should keep your knitting stuff out of reach. *sneers*

Und heute habe ich mal wieder ein bischen am Lava-Tuch weitergestrickt. Jetzt habe ich wieder eine Lochreihe vor mir - diesmal mit dem zweiten Knäuel, das ich heute endlich angestrickt habe. Dann habe ich mal (nur so zum Spaß) ausgerechnet, wieviele Maschen ich überhaupt so abzustricken habe. Es sind im Augenblick 307 Maschen. Grad habe ich nochmal den Revontuli ausgebreitet und ohhh Schreck!!! da ist bereits ein Faden ausgezogen! Dhania - Naseera's Tochter hat ihn möglicherweise bei einem ihrer 'Nahin'-Anfälle gezogen, aber so genau weiß ich das nicht. (Nahin bedeutet in Urdu/Hindi nichts anderes als nein. Urdu ist die Amtssprache in Pakistan und Hindi in Indien.) Die Nein-Anfälle sind bei 2-jährigen nicht ungewöhnlich, sollten jedoch mit viel Vorsicht besonders in Bezug aufs Strickzeug genossen werden. *grins*

There she is: Daniah! Isn't she cute? And since she doesn't speak German very well yet, she refers to me as Aunty (she really uses the english word) and to Thien as Bhai. (Bhai = brother)

Und hier ist sie: Daniah! Sieht sie nicht goldig aus? Und weil sie Deutsch noch nicht so gut spricht, nennt sie mich immer Aunty und Thien Bhai. (Aunty = englisch für Tante; Bhai = Bruder)

Rucksack-Update #3

Today we had loads of Sunshine, it didn't smell from chocolates or ginger bread for a change, the educationists were again on strike and I had to go to the city. So hurry to pack the hand bag, put on the contact lenses and sunglasses on! Of course my knitting stuff had to be with me, too. And so I ended up in the bus with the sunglasses on my nose (instead of the top of the head), the radio play 'Sherlock Holmes and the blue carbuncle' in my ears and knitting one round after the other - naturally stared at by other passengers.

Heute hatten wir richtig viel Sonnenschein, es hat zur Abwechslung weder nach irgendwelchen Schokoladen noch nach Printen gerochen, die Berufspädagogen haben wieder gestreikt und ich mußte in die Stadt. Also schnell die Handtasche gepackt, Kontaktlinsen angezogen und die Sonnenbrille auf! Mein Strickzeug kam natürlich mit. Und so saß ich im Bus mit der Sonnenbrille im Gesicht (statt auf dem Scheitel), das Hörspiel 'Sherlock Holmes und der blaue Karfunkel' in den Ohren und habe eine Runde nach der anderen gestrickt - natürlich wieder einmal von anderen Mitreisenden 'begafft' *gg*

Then fast back home, doin a bit of housework and again knittig while waiting for the kid. But he didn't come back by the time I expected him to be back and I didn't reach anyone in school. So I grabbed my handbag (with the backpack in work) and went to his school - by foot walking exactly the way the bus is taking, but missed him. I called home and who took the call? The short one. I told him to come to the Ponttor (which is actually only 4 bus stops from home) and waited there for him - knitting.

Dann schnell nach Hause, ein bischen Hausarbeit gemacht und wieder gestrickt. Wartenderweise. Weil mein Söhnchen aber nicht rechtzeitig aus der Schule kam und da heute niemand zu erreichen war (wegen dem Streik), bin ich also losgegangen (mit dem Strickzeug in der Hand), um ihn abzuholen. Und hab ihn promt verpaßt. Also zu Hause angerufen, und wer geht ans Telefon? Der Kurze. Ich hab ihm dann gesagt, er soll zum Ponttor kommen (nur 4 Haltestellen mit dem Bus von zu Hause) und hab da auf ihn gewartet - wieder strickenderweise.

We went to the city to get some things and had lunch at McD - we actually don't do that very often - returned to home and bought my son at Aldi a water pistol.

Wir waren dann noch in der Stadt eine Besorgung machen und haben uns Mittag bei McD gegönnt - das mach ich nicht sehr oft - sind nach Hause gefahren und haben Sohnemann bei Aldi schnell noch einen Wasser-Blaster gekauft.

I'm usually against weapons and violence, but in case of water pistols I always made the only exception. Of course the kids had a water battle then. I nice chance to try out the video function here in Blogger. Unfortunately my mobile doesn't support videos with a higher resolution...

Normalerweise bin ich ja gegen Waffen und Gewalt, aber bei Wasserpistolen habe ich immer die einzige Ausnahme gemacht. Klar, dass dann noch eine Wasserschlacht stattgefunden hat. Eine gute Gelegenheit die Videofunktion hier bei Blogger auszuprobieren *fg* Leider macht mein Handy keine sehr hoch auflösenden Videos...

Yeah, and then I had a Cappucchino on my balcony and knitted a few more rounds on the backpack. In about 2-3 days I'll be done with it.

Na ja, ich hab's mir dann mit einem Cappucchino auf dem Balkon bequem gemacht und noch ein paar Runden am Rucksack gestrickt. In circa 2-3 Tagen ist er dann fertig.

Well, I take off the contact lenses now, have a crispbread with butter and then make myself comfortable with the iPod in bed.

So, und jetzt ziehe ich die Kontaktlinsen wieder aus, nasche noch ein Knäcke mit Butter und mach es mir dann anschließend mit dem iPod im Bett bequem *gg*

Rucksack-Update #2

Well, here's a lil Update of the Backpack-Knit. I actually did about the half of the height of the Bag and for an 'I-don't-like-and-don't-want-to-knit-this-project' I come pretty good along. I am also not blind - at least not yet. My neighbours and the kids think it's a really cool bag until now.

So, hier gibt's dann mal schnell ein Update auf den Rucksackstrick *gg* Ungefähr die Hälfte der Gesamthöhe ist schon gestrickt. Und für ein 'Das-mag-und-will-ich-ganz-und-gar-nicht-Projekt' komme ich schon relativ flott voran. Auch bin ich noch nicht blind - jedenfalls nicht ganz. Meine Nachbarn und die Kinder finden den Beutel für den Anfang schon mal supergeil.

This week two new books moved in:
The first one is 'Knit 2 Together' by Tracy Ullman and Mel Clark. The stories are funny and the patterns I like in most cases, too. Of course I'd like to start a few new to-be-projects.

Diese Woche sind auch noch 2 Bücher in meine Regale eingezogen:
Das erste ist 'Knit 2 Together' von Tracey Ullman und Mel Clark. Die 'Stories' sind unterhaltsam und die Muster gefallen mir zumeist auch sehr gut. Klar, dass die Finger kribbeln, bei neuen Projekten-in-spe.

The second book is a recipe book for smoothies - the ones from the chilled distribution depot (I hope the phrase really exists) aren't very good... and this morning I just tried a so called Power-Smoothie. Made it from banana, strawberries, milk (which I boiled and cooled because of my milk protein allergy) and honey. I also made a picture of this one:

Das zweite Buch ist ein Rezeptbuch für Smoothies - die aus dem Kühlregal sind eher lasch... und heute früh hab ich gleich mal einen sogannten Power-Smoothie gemacht. Aus Banane, Erdbeeren, Milch (die ich wegen meiner Milcheiweiß-Allergie abgekocht und abkühlen lassen habe) und Honig. Hier gleich mal ein Beweis-Foto:

Rucksack-Update #1

After disliking the first try on the backpack - the bottom was okay but the green part with the basket-weave-pattern, which I thought was kinda cool, didn't match my imagination (it's beautiful, no doubt, but not with that backpack). So raveling the whole thing. That was about 24 hours before. Then cast on again. For this project I used the Middle-East-Cast-On with which you can knit immediately in rounds. In my case it was a premier because I never used it before, but thought it'll be perfect for the backpack. The bottom is already done.

Dear Sandy, thanks for the tip with the sunglasses! Though I have to take on the contact lenses then it's surprisingly helpful. *gg*

Nachdem mir der erste Versuch so gar nicht gefallen wollte - der Boden war schon mal okay, aber der grüne Teil mit dem Flechtmuster, das ich mir dazu überlegt hatte, ging irgendwie gar nicht (schön war's, aber nicht passend zum Rucksack). Also erst mal wieder ribbeln. Das war vor ziemlich genau 24 Stunden. Dann wieder neu anschlagen. Für den Anschlag hab ich den sogenannten Middle-East-Cast-On verwendet, bei dem man sofort in Runden stricken kann. Bei mir war der übrigens eine Premiere, weil ich ihn vorher nie ausprobiert, aber besonders für den Rucksack als ausgesprochen geeignet eingestuft habe. Der Boden ist auch schon wieder fertig.

Liebe Sandy, danke für den Tip mit der Sonnenbrille! Dazu muss ich zwar die Kontaktlinsen anziehen, aber es hilft erstaunlicherweise tatsächlich *gg*

Mit dem Mini-Hörbuch Die Bibel für Integrationswillige auf 'kanakisch' hat sogar der Neuanfang Spaß gemacht.

Kids are cruel!

Every mother and every father knows what I mean, don't you? We love our kids and we do almost everything for them. Sometimes I think they take our love to account when they ask for things...
My Cutie yesterday morning gave me a paper from his school saying they have in about 2 weeks a sports meeting for the 'Bundesjugendspiele' and therefore he nessessarily needs a second pair of sport shoes for the outside use (the one I recently made is only for inside use) and some stable bag for drinks & some foods. So I actually have to spend some more not calculated money this month. Darn it!
Well, my gracious son then said: "Mummy, why don't you knit me a backpack?" Great idea, I thought. So we went to my new shelf to pick some yarns for the backpack. I already had an idea of how to make the bag and suggested 2 colours. He however decided to stick with the main idea of 2 colours and choosed neon colours. How could I be so stupid to buy (10 years ago) 6 skeins in 3 neon colours?!? I then tried to convince him not to have the bag in 2 neon colours and so the decision was navy paired up with neon green.
That is great. I will be blind after this project because the navy ist way to dark to knit and the neon green is definately tooooo bright. Hope I'll finish the Revontuli still in time (I scheduled my countless projects to keep the oversight).

Rucksack-Design #1

Kinder sind grausam!

Alle Eltern wissen vermutlich, was ich meine. Wir lieben unsere Kinder und würden so ziemlich alles für sie tun. Manchmal glaube ich ja, diese kleinen Terroristen kalkulieren unsere Liebe zu ihnen knallhart in ihre Wünsche ein...
Mein kleiner Süßer reichte mir gestern früh einen Zettel, der besagt, dass die Schulen der Stadt in ca. 2 Wochen ein Sportfest zu den Bundesjugensspielen veranstalten wird. Dafür braucht der Zwerg natürlich ein Paar feste Turnschuhe (die gestrickten von neulich sind für das Stadion natürlich nicht geeignet) und eine halbwegs stabile Tasche für Essen und Getränke. Für mich heißt das: mehr Ausgaben als geplant diesen Monat. Mist!
Mein Söhnchen meinte daraufhin: "Mama, du kannst mir doch einen Rucksack stricken." Gute Idee, dachte ich und bin mit ihm zum neuen Wollregal, um gleich mal Garn auszusuchen. Ich hatte sofort die Idee das Ding in 2 Farben zu stricken und auch gleich Design und Farbwahl im Kopf. Mein Sohn hatte das Gleiche. Sein Design war meinem ähnlich aber nicht die Farbwahl. Es sollten nämlich Neonfarben sein. Warum zum Geier mußte ich auch (vor 10 Jahren) 6 Knäule in 3 Neonfarben kaufen?!? Ich konnte ihn geradeso noch überreden, nur eine Neonfarbe zu wählen und diese mit einer etwas gedeckteren Farbe zu kombinieren. Die Farben sind jetzt Marineblau und Neongrün.
Wundervoll. Wenn ich dann fertig bin, bin ich blind. Marine ist einfach zu dunkel (Memo an mich: nie wieder Marine oder ähnliche Farben horten bzw. kaufen!) und das Neongrün ist definitiv zu grell. Hoffentlich kann ich meinen Revontuli trotzdem innerhalb meines Zeitrahmens fertigstellen (ich hab meine tausend Baustellen jetzt terminisiert - macht alles etwas übersichtlicher)
